Holy Hunger
(Morning Service)
Text: Joel 1:1-20
Locust, drunkards, starving cattle, a splintered fig tree, weeping and wailing; these are just a few images that Joel gives us as he recounts the recent devastation of Israel. None of these images were uncommon for those living in Ancient Israel. What’s shocking is how unaffected and unbothered the people of Israel are. They just don’t seem to care. In this strange and outlandish book, Joel holds a mirror up to own own hearts that are prone to wander and stagnate. Let’s journey over these next three weeks to learn the rhythms of renewal that God uses to break through to us. Today is the first step: holy hunger.
